Is Drinking Warm Water Better For Your Health?

Weight loss

Share

Most of us prefer cold water over warm water due to its immediate refreshing and cooling effects, especially after an intense workout. Cold water quenches your thirst and provides a quick reduction in body temperature, so it’s typically the go-to on a hot day, but warm water might just be better for your body!

Benefits Of Warm Water

While cold water is effective in keeping us hydrated, warm water has been shown to make you less thirsty throughout the day. We know water helps us absorb the nutrients from the foods we eat (and plays a crucial role in weight loss) but lukewarm or warm water seems to be more beneficial overall.

Let’s break down the benefits!

  • Digestion: Warm water aids digestion by helping break down food more effectively, this can help alleviate constipation and promote regular bowl movements. Speaking of bowel movements… if you’ve noticed some irregularities after starting a new diet, have a read of our blog: There’s No Way To Sugar Coat This… We Need To Talk About Pooping

  • Detoxification: Drinking warm water helps detoxify the body by warming us up, increasing sweating, which eliminates toxins – your kidneys will love this!

  • Circulation: Warm water improves blood circulation by dilating blood vessels, enhancing oxygen and nutrient delivery throughout the body.

What About Lukewarm Water?

Lukewarm water is optimal for regular hydration. Our bodies don’t have to work very hard to cool it down or heat it up, making it more gentle on the digestive system compared to cold or warm water. It’s recommended to take medication with lukewarm water!

The Bottom Line

All water is good for you, it depends on your goals and preferences! After exercise and on a hot day, cold water is optimal because it will cool you down. If you’re after primo digestion, then warm water should be your go-to.

As for weight loss? The temperature doesn’t seem to play a huge role. Our metabolism changes throughout life anyway, but we do have some tips and tricks on how to naturally speed it up.
