Snacks You Think Are Healthy But Really Aren't

Sometimes we think we’re putting the right foods into our body even when we aren’t. Mindful eating takes a bit of practice, but we can still fall victim to snacking on the wrong foods even if they’re marketed as being healthy! Here are some foods too many of us think are suitable for a weight loss journey but simply aren’t.
Granola Bars
Granola bars are a popular snack. They’re commonly advertised as being nutritious with added fibre to keep you fuller for longer and help you stay energised. Unfortunately, a great deal of granola bars can be high in added sugars and processed ingredients, not only upping the calorie count, but negating their health benefits.
Flavoured Yoghurt
Some flavoured yoghurts contain so much added sugars, artificial flavours and preservatives that they compromise their nutritional value! We recommend Greek yoghurt because it’s low in calories, carbs and fat. It also contains probiotics which are great for your gut.
Vegetable Chips
Despite containing a bit of veggie goodness, many vegetable chips are deep-fried and coated with salt and unhealthy fats, making them less far nutritious than they sound. Always go for the real thing when you can!
Pre-Packaged Salads
Convenience really does come with a cost! Pre-packaged salads often contain high-calorie dressings, added sugars and unhealthy fats. A lot of them also contain preservatives to prolong shelf-life, so don’t be fooled!
Dried Fruit
Although dried fruits do provide you with nutrients, they can be very high-calorie with a lot of added sugars. If you’re eating them in large quantities, then you may be consuming far too much sugar.
When buying snacks, don’t just go off the front of the label. Turn it around and check out the nutritional information panel. It will give you valuable details about servings sizes and calorie content. You’ll know exactly what you’re putting into your body! Understanding the nutritional value allows you to manage your diet and make adjustments to support your goals.
