Self-care For Busy Ladies
Share
If your first thought to self-care is “I don’t have time” then welcome, you’ve come to the right place.
As ladies, we’re constantly being told what to wear, how to parent and when to settle down, so we’re not about to tell you that you should take ninety minutes out of your day to do self-care. (Although, if you do, that’s awesome!)
But before we roll into our suggestions like a super-Zen yogi, let’s talk about why self-care is important. It’s more than a to-do list item to tick off, it’s about you. Lovely you. When you make the time, you’re reminding your heart and soul that you’re worth it. And you are.
Here are five ways to take five minutes to do self-care
Hug it out
Being part of a warm embrace can release feel-good hormones. So why not make it a long hug? You’ll find your cup is full of lots of happy thoughts about how you matter to those around you.
Find your ‘grati-yay’
We’ve made up a new word. It's gratitude mixed with yay, because when you find something about your day to be grateful for, it’s easy to go ‘yay’. So, what could that be? Whether it’s wearing your good undies or cooking something that at least one kid ate, celebrate just one thing, and you’ll feel great.
Sing, dance, or air guitar
You could do it in the car. You could do it in the kitchen. You could even do it in the shower. Let your favorite song take hold of you. From belting out a tune to twerking like nobody is watching, let music be your release.
Plank your way through TV
Use your TV time wisely, and you can experience two equally important forms of self-care – the couch potato kind and the exercise queen kind. Hold a plank during the ad break. Or if that sounds more torturous than watching competitive darts, try a wall quat instead.
Take a sense break
Find a spot to sit with your back against the wall. Close your eyes, then check in with all five of your senses. What do you see, hear, taste, feel, and touch? Yes, it’s mediation, but it’s super quick. This will help to bring your mind back to the here and now.
And there you have it, ladies. Five things you can do that each takes no less than five minutes. We hope you enjoy.
